Tips to Save Money at Nordstrom: Price Matching

Nordstrom, the large department store we know today started as a younger man’s dream to make it in the United States. John W. Nordstrom came to the US from Sweden when he was only sixteen in 1901. With five dollars in his pocket and unable to speak any English, he started his journey. He labored in mines and logging camps as he crossed the country and eventually ended up in Alaska where he met his future business partner, Carl F. Wallin. They returned to Seattle, Washington where they opened their first store, Wallin & Nordstrom. By 1960, it was the largest shoe store in Seattle, and looking to spread their wings, Nordstrom ventured into selling women’s clothing. From then on, the company continued to grow and expand, adding men’s and children’s clothes in 1966.

In 1973, the first Nordstrom Rack store was opened in the basement of the original Nordstrom in Seattle to give shoppers the chance to shop for clearance items at a lower price. Today Nordstrom has 100 full-line stores and 248 Nordstrom Racks in 40 states and Canada. They sell some British fashion brands, making high fashion available to all of their customers. They pride themselves on offering customers the best service, quality, selection, and value possible.

Every Nordstrom store, like a lot of other departments and retail stores, has a rewards program called they call Nordy Club to help their customers save money. It is a points program; one point is earned for every dollar spent in-store or online at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Nordstrom Trunk Club, and HauteLook. These points add up to “Notes” that can be redeemed at five, ten, fifteen dollars, and so on. The Nordstrom Note program is a free program that grants customers access to Nordstrom stores’ best fashion, services, and experiences. Members also can enjoy exclusive perks like member-only sales and offers. Signing up is easy and can be done either online or in a Nordstrom store with a salesperson.

Another way they take care of their customers is by offering the Nordstrom card. The Nordstrom card is the store’s credit card that can be used in-store and at other stores that accept Visa credit cards. Nordstrom credit card members that are also a part of the Nordy Club earn three points for every dollar they spend and one point per dollar spent when they use their Nordstrom credit card elsewhere. New Nordstrom cardholders get a forty-dollar bonus when they use the card at the store once they are approved. Nordstrom cardholders can apply and manage their cards online or through the Nordstrom app, and can also apply in-store.

Price Match Policy

Customers might be wondering, does Nordstrom price match? The answer is yes. Price matching is the practice of stores matching the prices of their local and online competitors to increase sales. Some retailer stores will only offer price matching during the holidays and Black Friday or Cyber Monday to help bring in more customers. Others like Walmart, Kohls, Nordstrom, and other retailer stores offer price matches, price protection, and price adjustments all year round. It’s a simple process too. If a customer finds an item on sale at one store but has seen the identical item at a store closer to home, they can go to the closest store, and show the Nordstrom employee the ad for the item. If they have this item in stock and it is identical, then the customer will be granted the price match. Price matching can also be done on an online purchase as well. Every company will have its own price matching policy and list of exceptions, so customers should always check what the store’s policies are before requesting a price match.

Nordstrom does not offer a coupon or coupon code to be used in-store, on the Nordstrom Rack app, or while doing online shopping. They do, however, offer price matching and price adjustments. Some price-matched items are already listed on nordstrom.com, comparing their online price to other retailers. But if a customer does find an item for a lower price, they can request a price match in-store by bringing an advertisement or showing the item or promo code on a mobile device to a Nordstrom employee. The item must be the same size and color to qualify for a price match and must be in stock at the selected competitor and Nordstrom. Price matching requests can be made online through a link on Nordstrom’s “Pricing Policy” page.

Price adjusting is another way to get a better price on an item that went on sale after a customer made their purchase. Whether the sale or lower price is through one of their qualifying competitors or Nordstrom, customers can request a price adjustment within fourteen days of the purchase or shipment date if an online purchase was made. Nordstrom will issue a refund after the customer submits their request online through a form on the “Pricing Policy” page. Requests can also be made via email or by calling customer service.

Details and Exceptions

Some of the rules for the price adjustment policy are the same as the price matching policy. Nordstrom stores are unable to match shipping offers, gift card promotions, or order-level discounts. They also do not do adjustments or price matches on items from regional and non-US-based retailers, outlets, flash sales, clubs, or auction sellers. Items that are included in Limited-Time Sales, Extra Savings and Anniversary Sales, and Daily Deals or Beauty Daily Deals are excluded from price adjustments. Only one price adjustment is allowed per item and designer goods that were bought already on sale do not qualify for a price adjustment.

From a small shoe shop in Seattle, Washington to a large and luxurious department store, Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack offers a good number of ways to save money on high-end and even international brands. Although they do not offer a coupon in the paper or a coupon code in a customer’s email, there are multiple ways to earn savings. From their Nordy Club to their nordstom card and price matching and price adjustment policy, customers can do some savvy shopping. Nordstrom offers a great deal of clothing, shoes, home products, and more either in-store or online to help shoppers find exactly what they are looking for.

If customers are looking for more of a deal, they can also check the Nordstrom Rack store locations or shop online for even lower prices and clearance items. Whichever way they choose to shop, Nordstrom has them covered. As it says on their website; “John W. Nordstrom believed success would come only by offering customers the very best service, selection, quality and value” and that’s exactly what the Nordstrom family has been doing to keep his dream and passion alive.
